CULTURE of TIMOR
The Timorese are actually based from Dawan culture, the same as those in the Regency TTU and TTS. In this Regency of Kupang, This etnic are concentrated in southern part of Kupang Regency in Timor Island, also in Amfoang in northern Part of Kupang. Those part are accessible from Kupang by any vehicle, some people prefer to use boat as their transportation. In the rainy season best way to get Amfoang is by sea transportation, because some flood happened for people has to pass nearly 100 river (big and small). Farming is main the occupation for 90-95% of the people of Timor. Life with old traditions involving the seasons and planting, family lineage, and ceremony both traditional and occasional (i.e. birth, death and marriage). The people of Amarasi are also working with animal husbandry, using special insemination called Paron, this animal are exported to another island

LANGUAGE

Language used in this area is Dawan which is the whole structure and grammar are similar to those that are being used other Timorese in Regency of  TTU and TTS. 

RELIGION AND TRADITION

Christianity was the chosen religion for most people in West Timor, specially most people of Amarasi and Amfoang. And beside the relative poverty in rural Timor, Sunday mornings are a bright and lively affair when people make their way to and from the churches on foot or truck dressed in their finest. However, most of rural Timor still also practices Animism, the worship of nature and ancestor soul.

THE ROLE OF BETELNUT
Betel nut still plays an important role in Timorese society where most men and some women enjoy to chew, some from early sunrise through till sunset. It make every Timorese stand to work harder and longer, staves off hunger. Naturally they were addicted an to help able in approaching other and different people . Most ritual surrounds the chewing of betel, and you can get a long way in Timorese society with their pouches full of betel nut to ensure they are able and proudly share their betel nut with others. Chewing, without swallowing turn their mouth, lips and teeth turn red. Beginner will go dribble, and eventually spit out the excess.

The community understand the highest being called Usi Neno. Usi means lord or highest king. Neno means day or sky. Usi Neno means the king of day and sky. The creator of earth included human being. the resource of everything.

Gotong Royong or cooperative way of life
This ethnic is eager to help other family groups working their gardens though they have to walk two to five kilometer  from the house. In the same time they singing and chanting as they make their way through the village carrying the handmade roof trusses and framework for walls of new houses. They are proud to involved in a traditional event by bringing their own gift for any ceremonial event such as: Birthday, funeral, building new house, harvest and planting. Sometimes it can be a heavy financial burden, but a socially beneficial event because help them maintaining social relationship to their relative and neighbor.

SOCIAL STRAFICATION
The community system still being sustained by certain ethnic according local stratification system. Highest level called Amaf, royal family, Secondly, Too are the common people, Atupas is like local cultural institutions, and the last one is Ata like slaves. Nowadays there is no more slavery in Timor island, The community understanding Atupas with titles Kaiser or kesel. The royal family usually are richer and own a large number of land and the dayly activities will be conducted by Moen Leun Atoin Leun. Moen later delegates them to Amaf. Amaf is consist of big clan who rule other smal tribes.
In the official government system Amaf is in charged to organize the land distribution system which called Tobe. The delegation of this duty from Kaiser/Atupas to Moen Leun usually begins with a ceremony called Pilu Mai Soi which's signing with the giving of necklace, stick and other sign. Every year the king receive Mau Safa/Hu Sufa delivered by Moen Leun and Amaf Tobe.

Function of Tobe to represent the king in the community is very strong, the their inner role in the institution of Atupas are to organize the land distribution, contribution for king, and maintain some places for worship and their last function is to give permit for stranger and ensure contribution like Mau sufa to the king.


PLACE OF INTEREST
Tablolong
A beautiful place, about 23 Kms from Kupang, with white sandy beach and crystal water, good for water sport recreation. Tablolong is also chosen as the base for Kupang Local Billfish Fishing Tournament.

Menipo Island
Menipo island is not shown in any geographical map. it is only 571 hectares large or 7,328 meters long and 700 meters wide. It is separated from Timor island by a narrow strait.
Menipo island is part of Enoraen village, Kuarasi district, in the Kupang regency. This island is occupied by various kind of animals, such as Timor Deer (Cervus Timorensis), wild pigs, turtles, alligators, bats, small birds, pigeons, and turtle-doves. It is a popular place for recreation on weekends and holidays. One can go fishing, snorkeling, swimming or surfing.
